Automatic door
safety is the key factor when it comes to automatic doors in the
public environment. Two main safety devices are available which
are highly recommended to be used.
Battery Failsafe
Where the automatic door is on an egress route from a building,
it is important that an automatic door operates to provide an
exit route in an emergency situation. This is a requirement under
the NZBC Section 'C2 Means of Escape' document, section 3.17.7.
A battery failsafe system is available to provide this function
which will automatically open the doors when mains power fails.
The doors are held in the open position until mains power is restored.
Safety Beam Eyes (P.E. Cells)
Safety around the door leaves is important by preventing the doors
closing onto a person/object in the travel zone of the doors.
Safety beams are available which project a beam across the entrance
which when interrupted will hold the doors open until the person/obstruction
is cleared. Safety beams enable the door installation to comply
with standards NZS4239 1993. For best protection
it is recommended that a twin eye system is installed. One beam
would be installed100mm above finished floor
level and a second at 700mm above finished floor level. |
